It is important to ensure that the water used for drinking and preparing food is disinfected; keep food in dry places away from walls and floor; avoid contact with contaminated water; examine stored vegetables, fruits, and cereals that are free of fungi.

It is also advisable to place cans and jars of beaten or broken food in garbage containers, as well as food that has been wet with dirty water; remove perishable foods (meat, dairy) that have been without refrigeration, due to power outages.

Once the water level drops, it is necessary to clean and disinfect floors and walls, as well as other surfaces that have been reached by water. In the case of upholstered furniture, it must be cleaned, disinfected, and left to dry in the sun.

At the end of the cleaning, wash your hands well with clean or disinfected water and soap; in the same way, wash clothes contaminated with flood water with hot water and detergent.

Contact with mold can cause disease, therefore, when presenting irritation to eyes or skin, nasal congestion, or trouble breathing, seek medical attention.

Diarrheal and respiratory diseases are also frequent at this time, for which, when presenting fever, headache, upset stomach, it is necessary to go to the nearest medical unit.

Attention stagnant water favors mosquito breeding sites

The rain, and the stagnant water of the same, favor the appearance of breeding places for mosquitoes, for which the preventive measures against Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika should be intensified, such as: eliminating the grass around the house; constantly change the water in the vases; cover, remove, flip or throw any object or container that can store rainwater; get rid of tires, bottles and other utensils that are no longer used; use mosquito nets on windows.

In order to avoid accumulations of water after the rain, the patio, the roof and the street should be swept.
