This Wednesday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador held a meeting with federal cultural authorities to discuss the issue of reconstruction work on historic buildings damaged by the earthquake of September 19, 2017.
When leaving the meeting, the culture secretary Alejandra Frausto explained that the reconstruction and maintenance works would continue despite the contingency, as long as the appropriate measures are followed.
In an interview with the media, he added that the meeting is part of the quarterly meetings held with the Executive to discuss the issue and see progress.
The meeting was also attended by the director general of the National Institute of Anthropology and History, Diego Prieto, the governor of Oaxaca Alejandro Murat, authorities from the National Institute of Fine Arts and the nuncio Franco Coopola.
The representative of the Catholic Church stated that there was a willingness of all the parties involved to proceed with the reconstruction of the property.
“We are all committed to continue with the works of some priority temples, as soon as possible,” he agreed.
Upon leaving the National Palace, he said that work has been done to obtain the necessary funds.
He assimilated that some works can already begin, “depending on how the situation is, Some things that are studies, projects, are things that can be done in the office.”
